When Backing Up or Closing a Data File: Quicken Launcher has stopped working, or encountered an error and needs to close

Updated: 4/08/2014 | Article ID: GEN82732

This error may occur when backing up or closing your data file, if the file name is excessively long or if the file path exceeds 250 characters.

Solution:

To resolve this issue, make sure your data file is saved to the following location (if not, move it there):

  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\Quicken
  • Windows 8, 7, and Vista: C:\Users\username\Documents\Quicken

If your file already resides in the above location, shorten the file name by renaming it to 8 characters or less. Avoid using <* ? | " : \ / > in the file name.

Note: If you're not sure of the location of your data file, see Finding Quicken files.
