Install or Uninstall Quicken From CD or Online Download

It may become necessary to uninstall and reinstall Quicken to resolve a technical issue, or you may want to install on a second or new computer.

For Windows

Install (or Reinstall) Quicken

It is not necessary to uninstall Quicken before you install or reinstall, unless troubleshooting an issue that requires it.

CD

In most cases, when you insert your CD in the CD-ROM drive, it will automatically start the installation. Follow the normal installation process unless otherwise instructed. If the CD does not start the installation automatically:

  1. Insert the Quicken installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click the Start button and select Computer (or My Computer is older versions of Windows).
  3. Right-click the CD-ROM drive that contains the Quicken installation CD, and select Explore.
  4. Double-click the install.exe file.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Quicken installation.
  • Have a problem installing from your CD drive?

    If your CD drive works, but you are having trouble installing Quicken, copy the installation file to your computer first.

    1. Right-click on your desktop and select New > Folder. This creates a folder named New Folder on the desktop.
    2. Place the Quicken CD-ROM in your computer's CD-ROM drive. If you are prompted to install Quicken, click No or Cancel.
    3. Click the Microsoft® Windows®  Start button and select My Computer.
    4. Right-click the CD-ROM drive with the Quicken CD and select Copy.
    5. Open the New Folder created in step 1.
    6. Select the  Edit menu and select Paste. This copies the contents of the Quicken program from the CD-ROM to the hard disk. When the copy is complete, the DISK1 and Custom folders appear in the New Folder window.
    7. Double-click the DISK1 folder to display the contents, and then double-click Setup.exe.
    8. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Online Download

If you purchased Quicken as a download from Intuit, you can obtain a new Quicken installation download at the My Downloads Web Site. Downloads that were purchased directly from the Intuit Web Site, are available for up to 3 years from the date of purchase. Be sure to login using your User ID and password.  If you do not remember your login and/or password, use the Forgot my Login or Forgot my password links located on the login page.

  1. Locate the Quicken installation file you downloaded from Intuit. (Typical locations for file downloads are the Windows Desktop, or My Documents.)
  2. Double-click on the (.EXE) file (for example QW08PRM.EXE).
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Quicken installation.

 

Install Quicken From Your Computer's Hard Drive

Similar to installing Quicken from an online download, this method involves copying Quicken to your hard drive from your CD first. and then installing it in order to side-step issues that can occur during installation directly from your CD.

  1. Right-click on your desktop and select New > Folder. This creates a folder named New Folder on the desktop.
  2. Place the Quicken CD-ROM in your computer's CD-ROM drive. If you are prompted to install Quicken, click No or Cancel.
  3. Click the Microsoft® Windows®  Start button and select My Computer.
  4. Right-click the CD-ROM drive with the Quicken CD and select Copy.
  5. Open the New Folder created in step 1.
  6. Select the Edit menu and then Paste. This copies the contents of the Quicken program from the CD-ROM to the hard disk. When the copy is complete, the DISK1 and Custom folders appear in the New Folder window.
  7. Double-click the DISK1 folder to display the contents, and then double-clickSetup.exe.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Uninstall Quicken

When you uninstall Quicken, your data file will remain on the system in its current location. However, as a precaution, back up your data file to a safe place before you uninstall Quicken.

Microsoft Windows 7, 8 and Vista

  1. Click the Microsoft Windows logo (Start button) and select Control Panel.
  2. Under Programs, click the Uninstall a program link  The Uninstall or change a program window opens.
  3. in the list of programs, select your version of Quicken and click the Uninstall/Change button.
  4. If asked for your Administrator password, enter it and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall Quicken.

Microsoft Windows XP / 2003

  1. Select the Windows Start button, and select Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon, and select your version of Quicken.
  3. Click the Remove button and click Yes to uninstall Quicken.

For Mac

Install Quicken Essentials for Mac

Installing Quicken Essentials from a disk

  1. Drag the Quicken icon from your installation disk into your Applications folder.
    If you're prompted, enter the administrator's account name and password. (If you don't have an administrator account (if you're the only one using your computer, you probably do), ask someone who does to install the software for you.)
  2. Double-click the Quicken Essentials icon in your Applications folder to launch the program.

Installing Quicken Essentials from the web

  1. After you download Quicken Essentials from the web, the disk image will usually open automatically. If it doesn't, simply double-click the Quicken Essentials disk image.
  2. Drag the Quicken Essentials icon from the disk image into your Applications folder.
    Enter the administrator's account name and password (if necessary). If you are the only person using the computer, this is the name used to log in to the computer. If multiple people use the computer, you must have an administrator account to install software. If you don't have an administrator account, ask someone who does to install the software for you.
  3. Double-click the Quicken Essentials icon in your Applications folder to launch the program.
  4. Close any applications that are running and launch the Mac App Store from your Dock.
    If you have removed the Mac App Store from your dock, you can find it in your Applications folder.
  5. In the App Store toolbar, search for Quicken Essentials.
  6. Click to purchase Quicken Essentials.
  7. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
    If you don't have one, click the Create Apple ID button. Enter your ID and password then click the Sign In button.
  8. Quicken Essentials will begin to download.
    To view an estimate of the time remaining to download, click the Purchases tab at the top of the Mac App Store window.
  9. After the download completes, installation will begin and complete automatically.
  10. Click the Quicken Essentials icon in your Applications folder to launch the program.

Uninstall Quicken Essentials for Mac

Drag the application to the trash, or right-click (control+click) the application and choose Send to Trash.

Install Quicken 2007 or earlier

  1. If you have an external CD-ROM drive, turn it on, and then start your Macintosh.
  2. Insert the Quicken CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Double-click the Installer icon to start the Installer.
  4. Click Continue in the Welcome window.
  5. Click Accept to the Software License Agreement.
  6. Click Install to install Quicken to the location shown. To install Quicken in a different location, choose the location, and then click Install.
  7. Follow the onscreen installation instructions.
  8. If the Quicken program prompts you to restart the computer, click Restart. Otherwise, click Quit.

Uninstall Quicken 2007 or earlier

Drag the application to the trash, or right-click (control+click) the application and choose Send to Trash.
