Unable to Print to PDF on Windows 64-Bit Systems

When attempting to print to PDF, the Quicken program may appear to "freeze" or you may receive a message:

"Printer not Active"

-or-

"Unable to verify active printer at the system level."

 

Make sure the Quicken PDF Printer is installed

Windows XP

  1. Click the Windows Start button and open the Printers and Faxes screen.
  2. Check to see if the Quicken PDF Printer is listed.
    • If yes, proceed to making the PDF Converter compatible with 64-Bit versions of windows below.
    • If no, then proceed to installing the Quicken PDF Printer below.

Windows Vista Family (Vista, 7 or 8/8.1)

  1. Click the Windows button, select Control Panel, and click Printers.
  2. Check to see if the Quicken PDF Printer is listed.
    • If yes, proceed to making the PDF Converter compatible with 64-Bit versions of windows below.
    • If no, proceed to installing the Quicken PDF Printer below.

Install the Quicken PDF Printer

  1. Make sure that you are logged in as a user with administrator rights
  2. Right-click the Windows Start button, and select Explorer.
  3. Browse to C:\Program Files\Quicken\PDFDrv.
  4. Double-click on RestorePdfDriver.bat, and wait for the installation to complete. (A Command window will appear during the installation process, and will close when it is complete).
  5. Attempt to print to PDF in Quicken. If you are still unable to print to PDF, proceed to making the PDF Converter compatible with 64-Bit versions of windows below.

Make the PDF Converter compatible with 64-Bit versions of windows

Windows XP

  1. Make sure that you are logged in as a user with administrator rights
  2. Click the Windows Start button and open the Printers and Faxes screen.
  3. Right-click the Quicken PDF Printer icon and select Properties.
  4. Click the Ports tab, then click the Add Port button.
  5. Select Local Port and click the New Port button.
  6. Enter PDF1 for the new port name and click OK. Close the Printer Ports window.
  7. Put a checkmark in the box next to the PDF1 port if it is not already checked.
  8. Click on the Advanced tab.
  9. Select the Spool print documents radio button to make the options below it clickable.
  10. Clear (uncheck) the box labeled Enable advanced printing features by clicking it.
  11. Select the Print directly to printer radio button to make the options not clickable
  12. Click the Apply button then click OK.
  13. Click the Start button and select Run. In the Open field, type %windir% and click OK.
  14. Locate the System32 folder. Right-click the folder and select Properties.
  15. In the Properties window, click the Security tab.
  16. In the Group or user names list, select Users. In the Permissions for Users list, put a checkmark in the Allow column for Read and Write.
  17. Click the Apply button then click OK to save the changes.
  18. Important: In order for the changes to take effect, you must restart your computer.

Windows Vista Family (Vista, 7 or 8/8.1)

  1. Make sure that you are logged in as a user with administrator rights.
  2. Right-click the Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen and select Task Manager.
  3. Select the Processes tab.
  4. Select the splWOW64.exe process (if found) and click the End Process button.
  5. Close the Task Manager.
  6. Click the Windows button, select Control Panel, and click Printers.
  7. Right-click the Quicken PDF Printer icon and select Printer Properties.
  8. Select the Ports tab, then click the Add Port... button.
  9. Select Local Port and click the New Port... button.
  10. Enter PDF1 for the new port name and click OK. Close the Printer Ports window.
  11. Ensure that the PDF1 port is selected in the Ports list.
  12. Select the Advanced tab.
  13. Select the Spool print documents radio button to make the options below it clickable. Clear (uncheck) the box labeled Enable advanced printing features.
  14. Select the Print directly to printer radio button again.
  15. Ensure that Amyuni Document Converter 300 is selected in the Driver: drop-down field.
  16. Click the Apply button, and then click OK.
  17. Right-click the Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen and select Task Manager.
  18. Select the Processes tab.
  19. Select the splWOW64.exe process and click the End Process button.
  20. Important: In order for the changes to take effect, you must restart your computer.
