Quicken 2013 for Windows Release Notes, Updates, and Mondo Patch

If you use online account services (transaction download or bill pay), please verify you've completed all online sessions before you update Quicken.

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Online Center.
  2. Click Update/Send. If it didn't complete, you'll see a message, "Your last online session was not completed. Quicken will now try to complete this previous connection. After it is done, you can send your new request."
  3. Click OK. Once it's complete, you can continue with your Quicken update.

When you open Quicken, it checks to see if you are on the latest release and, if a new release is available, it asks if you would like to update. This is referred called an automatic update. A manual update allows you to download and install the update yourself.

  • Check to see if you already have the latest update. Choose About Quicken from Quicken's Help menu, located near the top of your Quicken program. If you see Release R12 below the Quicken logo, your program is already up to date.
  • Make sure you have completed all previous online sessions (if you use transaction download or Billpay. If you don't use either of these, go directly to step 1 below). From Quicken's Tools menu, choose One Step Update. Click Update/Send. If your last online session was not completed, you'll see the message Your last online session was not completed. Quicken will now try to complete this previous connection. After it is done, you can send your new request. Click OK to complete your previous connection. Once the connection is complete, you are ready to update.
  • Verify that the Quicken program (QW.exe or Quicken Launcher) has full and unrestricted access to the Internet. Refer to your firewall documentation or contact your firewall provider if you need assistance verifying this.
  • Pause or temporarily disable all virus scanning and Malware protection for at least 15 minutes before starting the update process. Although this may not be necessary, there are times in which some anti-virus and malware protection agents can interfere with the Quicken update process. Please use this measure if problems occur while updating.

Update Quicken

  1. Select Tools on the menu bar, then choose One Step Update.
  2. Click Update Now.
    • If an update to Quicken is accessable, it will indicate a free update is available to select.  
    • Quicken displays a window that describes what's in the update, as well as brief instructions for downloading the update.
    • You'll need to exit Quicken to run the update program, once it is downloaded.
    • Don't worry.  When you exit, all your work is saved, and you can resume working as soon as the update finishes.
  • Have a mobile app you need to update?

    iPad/iPhone/iPod

    1. Find and tap on the App Store icon.
    2. Tap the Updates icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. If there are updates available, the number of updates available show up in red.
    3. If there is a Quicken app update, it will show up here. If it shows up, tap the app once to update.
    4. Enter your password and wait for your apps to update.

    Android

    1. Find and open the Android Marketplace on your home screen or in your app drawer.
    2. Once it loads, tap the menu button on your device and choose the My Apps option.
    3. A list of your apps opens. If there is a Quicken app update available you'll see red/orange text that says Update to the right of the name. Tap and hold down the app you want to update and then choose Update.

    Google Play

    • You'll be able to check for new versions of the Quicken app by selecting the My Apps section in Google Play. If there is an update available, it will be indicated here.

Alternate Manual Update

If you don't use transaction download or Billpay, you can go right to downloading the manual update:

  1. To download the manual update, click here.
  2. Choose to Save the file, then browse to your desktop and save it there.
  3. From your desktop, double-click the newly downloaded file QW2013R12Patch (unless you're using Windows Vista, in which case you will need to right-click the file and choose Run as Administrator).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.
  5. When finished, follow the instructions at the top of this article to ensure that Quicken has been updated to Release R12.

Alternate Mondo Patch

The Mondo Patch is just like a regular update, except when it updates the Quicken files, it updates all of them, if there are updates to the files or not, rather than relying on the system to update the files that had version change. This update also takes longer to install.

    • Updated. Quicken 2013 now imports TurboTax 2012 data for use in the Quicken Tax Planner.
