Problems Downloading Quotes For U.S. Securities

Typically, you can download updated quotes for securities you are tracking with no problems. However, on occasion, you might encounter one of the following situations when getting the latest quotes for securities.

1. Trouble connecting to the Internet: Connectivity troubleshooting
2. Corrupted Quicken Price History (QPH) file: Reconstructing the QPH file
3. Corrupted Quicken installation: Reinstalling Quicken

1. Security is not selected for download.
2. Security has the wrong ticker symbol.
3. Security has the wrong security type: Be sure the correct security type is selected. If the security is a market index mutual fund, select Mutual Fund rather than Market Index.
4. Security is thinly traded, such as an Over-The-Counter stock: Quotes are downloaded only if there is trading volume of the security that day. If there were no trades that day, no quotes are downloaded.
5. Quotes for the security are not available for download
6. Corrupted Quicken Price History (QPH) file: Reconstructing the QPH file

To select a security for download:

1. Select the Edit menu and select Preferences > Customize Online Updates.
2. Select the Portfolio tab and be sure the security is checked.

To check the symbol:

1. Select the Edit menu and select Preferences > Customize Online Updates.
2. Select the Portfolio tab.
3. Right-click the security and click Edit.
4. Be sure the correct ticker symbol appears.
   • If you are unsure of the correct ticker symbol, contact your broker or use an online quote lookup service.
   • Symbols cannot contain spaces or special characters, such as +, &, @, and so on.
   • If the stock has a class, such as the Berkshire Hathaway Inc. class A and class B stocks, try using a period instead of a space between the main stock symbol and the class. For example, instead of entering BRK A or BRK B, enter BKR.A or BRK.B.
