Show Hidden Files and Folders

Follow the steps for your Windows system.

Windows XP

  1. On the Windows taskbar, right-click Start, and then select Explore.
  2. On the Tools menu, select Folder Options.
  3. On the View tab, choose Show hidden files and folders.
  4. Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
  5. Select OK.

Windows Vista / Windows 7

  1. On the Windows taskbar, right-click Start, and then select Explore.
  2. On the Organize menu, select Folder and Search Options.
  3. On the View tab, choose Show hidden files and folders.
  4. Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
  5. Select OK.

Windows 8 & 8.1

  1. Log on to Windows 8 computer with the administrator or standard user account on which hidden files and folders are to be viewed.
  2. Click Desktop tile from the Start screen to go to the desktop.
  3. On the desktop screen, click File Explorer icon from the taskbar.
  4. On Libraries window, click View from the menu bar at the top.
  5. Click Options.
  6. On Folder Options go to View tab.
  7. Select Advanced settings and click Show hidden files, folders, and drives under Hidden files and folders category.
  8. Click OK.
