Install Multiple Versions of Quicken On the Same Computer

Updated: 1/17/2012 | Article ID: GEN81993

Multiple versions of Quicken can be installed and used on the same computer. Doing this successfully requires an understanding of computer systems, as well as knowledge about how the Quicken programs work. Consider the following if more than one version of Quicken is going to be used on the same computer:

  • Installing more than one version of Quicken on one computer is not supported.  If something happens, Quicken Support would not be able to assist with resolving that issue.
  • Each Quicken program version should be installed to a separate folder.  The data files for each version should be kept in their own folder in Documents.
    Example: "C:\Users\[your name]\Quicken\2012" and "C:\Users\[your name]\Quicken\2011"
  • The Quicken default installation folder is C:\Program Files\Quicken.  When installing a second Quicken program version on the same computer, do a custom installation in order to select a different folder.
  • Quicken installs a single program initialization file (Quicken.ini) in the Windows folder. Depending on settings chosen in one Quicken program version, some settings may change or not remain when switching between the different Quicken versions.
  • Quicken data files are not interchangeable among different Quicken program versions. Once a data file has been converted to a new program version, it cannot be opened in the older version.
  • The computer must meet the full system requirements for each version being used on the same computer. Make certain there is sufficient hard disk space for each program.

  1. Double-click your program download (the .EXE file), or Insert your install CD to begin the installation process.
  2. Before clicking the Next button on the first install-wizard screen, hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys then click the Next button on the screen.
  3. Click OK on the pop-up message, "Quicken will no longer search for prior installations."
  4. Be sure to Browse on the Install Directory confirmation window to select a directory other than your prior/existing install directory.
