What's New Guide for Quicken 2011 for Windows

Thank you for choosing Quicken!

Here's a list of improvements and changes we've made to Quicken this year.

Spending Tab

NEW! The new Spending tab combines the transactions from your spending accounts and makes it easy to see where your money goes. A pie chart provides a way to drill down and see the transactions in a particular category. You can also see which transactions are uncategorized, so you can easily assign them to categories.

How will I use it?

  1. Click the Spending tab.
  2. Choose the accounts, date range, and transaction types that you are interested in.
  3. View, sort, report on, and analyze your spending as never before!

All Transactions Register

NEW! The new All Transactions register lets you review and work with transactions from all your spending, asset, and liability accounts in one place.

  • Easily identify uncategorized transactions
  • Add and edit transactions in one place

How will I use it?

  1. Click All Transactions at the top of the Account Bar.
  2. Choose the accounts, date range, and transaction types that you are interested in.
  3. Review and work on your transactions in one register!

Projected Balances Graph

NEW! Ensure you have the money you need with a new projected account balances graph that shows you how much money you have left after upcoming bills and income.

How will I use it?

  1. Click the Bills tab.
  2. Click the Projected Balances button if it isn't already selected.
  3. Choose the accounts and date range that you want to see in the graph.
  4. Click the graph to see more detail.

Customizable Register Columns

IMPROVED! Customize your account register to display your data exactly how you’d like to see it.

How will I use it?

  • To show and hide register columns, click the gears icon. You'll find it at the top of the register scroll bar.
  • To sort by a register column, click the register column heading.
  • To resize a column, click and drag the line that separates two column headings.

More Financial Institutions

IMPROVED! Connect to more banks than ever before. Download transactions from over 12,000 financial institutions to get your complete financial picture without manual entry.

How will I use it?

  • At the bottom of the Account Bar list, click Add Account.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions in the Simple Setup wizard.

Improved Automatic Categorization

IMPROVED! We've upgraded our categorization engine so Quicken does a better job of automatically assigning categories to the transactions you download, saving you time and making it easier for you to see where your money is going.

How will I use it?

  • Download transactions from a bank account or credit card.
  • Quicken automatically assigns a Category to most transactions.

Faster Downloads

IMPROVED! Now faster than ever before -- Quicken updates your transactions using a speedier account download process.

How will I use it?

  • Just download your transactions. You will notice the difference!

Automatic Quotes Download (requires Quicken Premier or higher)

NEW! Quicken will automatically update stock quotes every 15 minutes so you always know the value of your portfolio.

How will I use it?

  • To enable this feature, choose Edit menu > Preferences. In the left pane, click Investment transactions. In the right pane, select "Automatically update quotes every 15 minutes."
  • As long as you remain connected to the Internet, Quicken will update your security prices every 15 minutes.

Flags in the Account Bar

IMPROVED! In previous versions of Quicken, flags in the Account Bar alerted you when you had transactions that needed to be reviewed or processed. In Quicken 2011, the flags continue to display the same alerts, but now you can click an alert and be taken to an area of the program where you can resolve it.

Account Overviews

IMPROVED! Account Overviews used to be accessed by clicking a button at the top a register window. We received feedback from customers stating that they wanted less clutter in Quicken windows. To address this feedback, we moved the Account Overviews to the Account Actions menu in the registers.

How will I use it?

  • To view an Account Overview in Quicken 2011, open an account register, then click Account Actions > Account Overview.

Transfer Detection

NEW! This new feature scans your transactions as they are being downloaded to detect transfers between your accounts. When Quicken finds what looks like a matched pair of transfer transactions, it can automatically create the transfer in Quicken for you, or ask you for confirmation first.

How will I use it?

  • To enable and set options for this feature, choose Edit menu > Preferences > Transfer Detection.

New Look and Feel

IMPROVED! A streamlined user interface puts the most commonly used features up front and center to make them easily accessible.

Other Great Stuff

  • NEW! Bond Maturity report
  • NEW! Single-click drill down on reports and graphs
  • NEW! Copy report data using CTRL+C so you can paste the data into other applications
  • IMPROVED! Quicken is faster than ever, particularly in the registers
