How do I move my Quicken data file from one computer to another?

Learn how to move your Quicken data file from one computer to another.

There are a few things to understand before you move your data file.

  • You do not need to buy another copy of Quicken if you're just moving your data file.
  • The same version of Quicken must be installed on the computer your moving your data file to.
  • You should not open or run Quicken on a network.

Ok, let's get started.

  1. Install Quicken on the second computer and make sure it's on the latest release.  If usually updates when you install, but if you need help with this step, go here.
  2. On the first computer, select the File menu > BackupBackup your data file to an external source, such as USB drive.
  3. On the second computer, connect the USB drive or insert the backup disk.
  4. Select the File menu > Restore Backup File. Navigate to the external disk to restore the data file.
  5. Select the file you want to restore, and click OK

Are you using Quicken Online Backup? Install the Online Backup client on the second computer.
