When Backing Up Quicken Data To Floppy Disk: "File not backed up" or "Unable to open source file"

Updated: 4/30/2012 | Article ID: GEN82647

It is not recommended to use floppy disks to backup Quicken data.  Instead, back up your Quicken data file on media that is faster and offers more storage space, such as your hard drive, removable (USB) thumb drive or CD/DVD.

If backing up to another form of media isn't an option

  1. Rename your data file and try to back up the file again.
  2. If renaming the file doesn't resolve the issue, check your file's data integrity.
  3. If your file's data integrity is not an issue, back up the data file to a new floppy disk, or reformat the existing floppy disk (refer to the manufacturer's instructions for your operating system).
