Restore Quicken Data File From CD

Once you  back up a Quicken data file, you can restore it whenever you need.

To restore your data file

1. Insert the backup CD containing the Quicken data file into your CD drive.
2. Select the Quicken File menu and select Restore Backup File.
3. If the data file you want to restore is listed, select it. Otherwise, click Browse and navigate to the data file you want to restore.
4. If you are restoring the current file, click OK to overwrite it.
   Note: Overwriting the file replaces the information on your computer with the information on your backup disk.
5. When the message that the file is restored appears, click OK.
6. Select the File menu and select Open to select the data file.

The most common issues when restoring using a CD are related to the formatting options for CDs or access rights to it. Typical errors include "Unable to access the disk in Drive X," "Error reading source file,"or "Disk not ready or device not ready." The steps below will help resolve these issues.

1. Create a folder on your hard drive named Quicken Restore Data. Intuit recommends creating this folder under My Documents.
2. Using Windows Explorer, copy the Quicken data file you want to restore from the CD to the folder created in step 1. Copy all files with your data file name, regardless of the file extension. Your Quicken data is composed of multiple files. If you use the image attachment feature, be sure to copy the Attach folder.
   Note: If you receive an error when copying the files, use a different back up disk or contact your computer manufacturer for additional assistance.  
3. Right-click the folder created in step 1 and select Properties.
4. Clear the Read-only checkbox, and then click OK.
5. Select Apply changes to this folder, sub folders and files, and then click OK.
6. Select the File menu and select Restore Backup File.
7. Click Browse and navigate to the file you want to restore. If you are restoring the current file, click OK to overwrite it.

8. When the message that the file is restored appears, click OK.
9. Select the File menu and select Open to select the file you restored.
