The Quicken folder includes your Quicken data file. It also contains your attachment, backup, and conversion files.
In Quicken 2010 and newer: the data file is one file, with a file extension of .QDF.
In Quicken 2009: Your Quicken data file (called QDATA by default) holds all your account information. It is made up of several separate files, each with the same first name (QDATA by default) and a different extension such as .QDF, .QEL, .QPH, and so on. Use the Quicken commands to manage your data file, and Quicken will include all the necessary files for you.
The Attach folder includes the digital images you've attached to transactions or accounts.
The BACKUP folder includes backup data that can be helpful if you need to get a file back after you delete it, or if you're having trouble with a password you recently added to your main data file.
When you convert a data file, you will no longer be able to use it in the previous version of Quicken. As a safeguard, Quicken backs up your original data files in the Quicken folder. If you ever need them again, you can find them in the QXXFILES folder, where XX equals the last two digits of the number of the Quicken version you used before conversion. For example, if you are converting from Quicken 2007, the subfolder is named Q07FILES. If you are converting from a version of Quicken that is older that Quicken 98, look in the QW6FILES folder for Quicken 6 files, in the QW5FILES folder for Quicken 5 files, or in the OLDFILES folder for files from all other versions of Quicken.
Quicken stores your Quicken folder in C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\Quicken by default. If you installed this or your previous version of Quicken to another location, Quicken leaves your Quicken folder in the location you specified until you reinstall Quicken and specify another location.
