Unlock Quicken to Add Features

Overview

Unlocking Quicken allows you to upgrade Quicken without paying for a full, separate version of the program. For example, if you purchased Quicken Basic and want to use the advanced investment tracking features in Quicken Premier, you can unlock the Premier features without paying the full purchase price of Premier. Unlocking does not allow you to upgrade from one years version of Quicken to the next. For example, you cannot unlock from Quicken 2011 to Quicken 2012.

So in the end, this will allow you to transform one version into another, instead of buying a new version, which would leave you with two separate versions.

Add new features to Quicken for the first time

Add new features to Quicken for the first time

  1. Choose Help menu > Which Quicken is best for you? (Quicken Basic and Deluxe) or Help menu > Add Business Tools (Quicken Premier).
  2. Review the information about the features you want to add.
  3. Click Order Online and proceed with the order process (For automatic unlock, do not click any other Shop Intuit product pages).
  4. During checkout, create a Shop Intuit account that includes a member ID and password. If you already have a Quicken.com or TurboTax sign in, you may use it as the Web ID instead.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to submit your order for the new features.

Add features to Quicken a second or subsequent time

If you have the unlock code from your order confirmation and you are using the same computer Quicken was originally installed, you have two options

Option 1

  1. Choose Help menu > Unlock Again.
  2. Select the Enter the unlock code from your order confirmation email.
  3. Copy and paste the unlock code.
    Where is my unlock code? Check your email history. When you purchased additional features, Shop Intuit sent you an order confirmation email with your unlock code.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Restart Quicken to begin using your new features.

Option 2

If you are

  • Using the same computer Quicken was originally installed; or,
  • Quicken cannot recognize the computer; or,
  • If you are using a new computer, and you can go online
  1. Select the Help menu > Unlock Again....
  2. From the Add Features Again window, select the Go online and unlock Quicken automatically option and click Continue.
  3. You will be asked to log in to your Quicken account. Please do so.
  4. Select Downloads & Unlocks on the left.

Notes

  • To purchase additional features you must have Internet Explorer set to accept cookies.
  • If you reinstall Quicken, for example on a different computer, you will need to add any new features again.
  • You must add new features from Quicken: you cannot start to unlock features from the Shop Intuit Web site.
  • If Quicken reports that your data file was used with a different version of Quicken, you will need to add any new features again.
  • You need administrator rights to upgrade Quicken. If you need additional assistance, refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the operating system.
  • There is no charge to unlock Quicken a second or subsequent time.
