Importing your Microsoft Money File into Quicken 2009 or 2010

Importing a Microsoft Money File into Quicken 2009 or 2010

Quicken 2009 (R7) and 2010 now allow you to easily import a Microsoft Money file directly into Quicken without having to go outside the Quicken product. (No separate converter, no extra steps in Money, and no import of XML files required.) You can now just go straight from Microsoft Money to Quicken.
What you need to know:
·    Quicken is currently able to import files from Microsoft Money 2007 and 2008 only.
·    Your Microsoft Money 2007 or 2008 software must be installed on the same computer as Quicken 2010. (If you do not have Microsoft Money 2007 or 2008 you can download a free trial of MS Money Plus Deluxe, or a free trial of MS Money Plus Home & Business to use for the process of importing your file into Quicken.)
·    The version of the data file you plan to import must match the version of Microsoft Money you have installed. (For example, to import a Money 2007 file, you must have Money 2007 installed, and to import a Money 2008 file, you must have Money 2008 installed.)
·    If you are in the process of reconciling your accounts in Microsoft Money, we recommend that you finish reconciling before importing (because Quicken won’t know where you are in the process if you import mid-stream).
·    Money should not be running during the import process. Please exit the program before starting.

Note: To find the Money Converter in 2009, select File > Import > Microsoft Money file
·    When you run Quicken for the first time after installing the software, you’ll see three options. Choose “I want to import my data from Microsoft Money.” Then, follow the on-screen instructions to locate your Money file and import its data.

·    If you don’t see the “I want to import my data from Microsoft Money” option, it’s because Quicken could not find either the Money software or a Money file—or both—on your computer. You’ll need to have both of those on your computer before you can import your data. If you simply want to open Quicken now and take a look at the program, select the “I am a new user” option and follow the on-screen instructions for creating a new data file.

Notes:
To find the Money Converter in 2009, select File > Import > Microsoft Money file
·    Recurring Automatic Payments (“Apay”): Before you import your data into Quicken, recommend that you go into Money and cancel any Recurring Automatic Payments you have in Money. We’ll import those payments into Quicken, but you’ll have to set them up again to be paid online. Canceling your payments before importing ensures that you won’t get duplicate bill reminders in Quicken, when you sync up with your bank.
·    Money Plus Home & Business customers: You may import your data into Quicken, but please be aware that some of your business-specific data—such as Project, Inventory, Customer, and Product datawill not be carry over. Quicken currently does not support the import of this data. However, the rest of your datayour accounts, scheduled bills, categories and transactionswill be imported.
·    Merging data from Money and Quicken: Quicken is not able to merge data from a Money file into a Quicken file. It can only create a new Quicken file and then import your Microsoft Money data into it.
