Updated: 9/19/2009 | Article ID: 5820

Installing Quicken on Microsoft Windows Vista requires that the program be installed with administrative rights.

  1. Insert the Quicken installation CD in to the CD-ROM drive. If you are prompted to install Quicken, click No or Cancel.
  2. Click the Start button and select Computer (Microsoft Windows Vista) or My Computer (Microsoft Windows XP).
  3. Right-click the CD-ROM drive that contains the Quicken installation CD and select Explore.
  4. Right-click the install.exe file and select Run as Administrator. If you receive a warning about unauthorized access, click Allow.

Note: If you are using a downloaded version of Quicken, locate the Quicken download installation file and right-click it. Select Run as Administrator.

  5. If you are prompted for your Administrator password, enter the password. If you did not establish an Administrator password when you installed Windows Vista, click Continue.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Quicken installation process.
  7. When prompted to update the program during installation process, click Update Now to install the latest updates.

Note: If the installation does not appear to be responsive, do not cancel the installation and do not use the Windows Task Manager to end the task. The Quicken installation can take several minutes to complete, depending on the amount of RAM installed and other system configuration settings.
