The investment seeks to provide long-term after-tax growth of capital through tax-sensitive participation in a broadly diversified portfolio of international equity securities. The fund normally invests at least 80% of its net assets plus any borrowings for investment purposes in equity investments in companies that are organized outside the United States or whose securities are principally traded outside the United States. It uses a variety of quantitative techniques, in combination with a qualitative overlay, when selecting investments that have the potential to maximize the fund's after-tax return and minimize capital gains and income distributions.
